TUAÑO (Tara Yap)
ILOILO CITY – Crime in Western Visayas dropped by 67 percent during the first two weeks of Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño as Police Regional Office-6 chief.
Tuaño said PRO-6 units recorded 11 cases of eight focus crimes from June 1 to June 7, compared to 33 from May 25 to 31.
The eight focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, motor vehicle theft, and motorcycle theft.
The crime drop was attributed to Tuaño’s order to beef up police visibility.
Tuaño rolled out the “Safer Cities” initiative of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Western Visayas when he assumed office.
Police also recorded a 36 percent decrease in index crimes from May 29 to June 4 in the region comprising Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the regional capital of Iloilo.
“In just two weeks, we are already seeing positive developments in our crime environment across Western Visayas. These improvements reflect not only the hard work of our personnel on the ground but also the strong support, trust, and cooperation of our communities, especially our fellow Ilonggos who continue to partner with us in maintaining peace and public safety,” said Tuaño in a statement.
