PH Red Cross deploys equipment, food packs in areas isolated by M7.8 quake in GenSan, Sarangani

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) deployed satellite phones, communication units, generators, hot meals, and food packs to communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in General Santos and Sarangani.
PRC chairman and chief executive officer Richard J. Gordon said the deployment of equipment and assistance package were done particularly in areas isolated by damaged infrastructure.
Among the affected routes are the Aquino Bridge in Glan and the Sapumalsa Bridge in Malapatan, both of which sustained damage following the earthquake, limiting access to several communities in Sarangani Province.
“We are receiving reports from our RC 143 volunteers that some communities have become isolated because bridges have been rendered impassable. I would like to assure them that help is on the way,” said Gordon.
He said the Philippine Red Cross will bring food packs, water filtration systems for clean and potable water, satellite communications for easier reach within the communities, and other essential assistance to affected residents.
“We will use every available resource, including our logistics trucks and emergency response assets, to reach those who need help,” Gordon said.
“The PRC continues to coordinate with local authorities and partner agencies to restore critical lifelines and deliver humanitarian assistance to affected communities,” he added.
