OVP sends food truck to support rescue teams after Mindanao earthquake

Hot meals provided to frontliners amid ongoing search, rescue, and retrieval operations following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake

The Office of Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday, June 9, said it has deployed its Kalusugan Food Truck to assist frontliners involved in search, rescue, and retrieval operations following the powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Southern Mindanao on June 8.
Through the Office of the Vice President (OVP) Disaster Operations Center (DOC) and its Southern Mindanao Satellite Office, the Kalusugan Food Truck is providing hot meals to emergency responders working in disaster-hit areas.
“The Office of the Vice President recognizes the dedication and sacrifice of our frontliners who continue to serve under difficult and hazardous conditions,” the OVP said in a statement.
The OVP added that it “continues to closely monitor developments on the ground and remains ready to augment ongoing humanitarian assistance, relief, and recovery efforts for communities affected by the earthquake.”
Food truck deployment
The food truck has been stationed near the collapsed Save More building in Barangay Calumpang, General Santos City, one of the areas severely affected by the earthquake, which also impacted nearby localities in South Cotabato.
The strong quake caused extensive damage to infrastructure across the region, prompting large-scale emergency response efforts. Search, rescue, and retrieval operations remain underway at the site amid reports that victims may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
The OVP said approximately 150 frontliners—including rescuers, emergency responders, medical personnel, and support staff from various agencies—are currently deployed in the area.
The deployment of the Kalusugan Food Truck forms part of the OVP’s broader disaster response initiative, which is being coordinated through the Disaster Operations Center and implemented by the Southern Mindanao Satellite Office in close coordination with local government units, emergency response teams, and partner agencies.
Government agencies and local authorities continue to assess the extent of the earthquake damage as rescue operations remain focused on locating and assisting affected residents.
