Police arrested a 22-year-old man during a traffic stop in Taguig City on Tuesday, June 9, after finding him carrying a gun. He was riding with a 17-year-old girl, who was also taken into custody for intervention.
Taguig Police Sub-station 9 officers were on mobile patrol in Barangay New Lower Bicutan when they flagged down a motorcycle for lacking side mirrors. While verifying the rider’s documents, identified only as alias Joshua, officers spotted a firearm in his possession.
An inspection yielded a .38-caliber revolver loaded with two live rounds and bearing no serial number. Joshua failed to present licenses or permits for the weapon, resulting in his arrest for violating Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act of 2013).
The teenage girl accompanying him was placed under custody for intervention and assistance. Police also seized the motorcycle.
Both were brought to the police station for documentation, then to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for medical examination, before being referred to the Investigation and Detection Management Section for further investigation.
Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Glenn Oliver Cinco said the recovery of the loose firearm underscores the importance of police visibility and anti-criminality operations in maintaining peace and order.
