State seismologists have recorded more than 1,300 aftershocks following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Southern Mindanao on June 8.
As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a total of 1,352 aftershocks had been monitored since the main earthquake.

Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected following a major earthquake as the ground adjusts to the movement that occurred along the fault zone.
The agency advised the public to remain alert for possible strong aftershocks that may cause additional damage to already weakened structures.
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani at 7:37 a.m. on June 8. The highest intensity generated by this powerful quake was Intensity VII, considered as “destructive.”
