DAVAO CITY – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Davao (RDRRMC-11) reported Tuesday that four people died and 23 others were injured in the region following the magnitude-7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao the previous day.
In a bulletin, RDRRMC-11 said the quake affected 42 villages, displacing 8,322 families or 18,384 individuals in the region.
Of these, 1,544 families are currently staying in 14 evacuation centers, while seven families chose to stay elsewhere or with their relatives.
Authorities also recorded 98 damaged houses, including 12 completely damaged and 86 partially damaged.
Infrastructure damage was estimated at P500,000, including impacts on roads, bridges, and seaports in Davao City, Davao del Sur, and Davao Occidental.
“A total of 49 local government units suspended classes and work as precautionary measures,” the bulletin added.
Humanitarian assistance worth P2.04 million has been provided, including food and non-food items from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao (DSWD-11) worth P1.48 million and from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD-11) amounting to P565,256.
RDRRMC-11 has raised its Emergency Operations Center to red alert, activated response cluster, and deployed air assets for aerial surveys.
Meanwhile, members of RDRRMC-11 visited the municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental on Tuesday.
With transport support from the Tactical Operations Wing-Eastern Mindanao of the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom), the team attended a situation briefing led by Mayor Jason John Joyce to validate reports from affected areas, assess the immediate needs of communities, and determine the necessary interventions and support that may be mobilized by the RDRRMC-11 and its member agencies.
The team is also scheduled to conduct field visits to several affected villages in the municipality to further evaluate the earthquake's impact and identify priority actions to support local response and early recovery efforts. (PNA)
