ILOILO CITY – More than 800,000 students trooped to schools in Western Visayas region during the opening of classes for the school year 2026-2027 on Monday, June 8.
Initial data from the Department of Education-6 said that there is an initial enrollment of more than 814,000 students as of Monday afternoon.
“This is not only an enrollment of public schools, but also private schools,” said DepEd-6 Information Officer Hernani Escular Jr.
The figure covers schools in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the regional capital Iloilo City.
There are nearly 749,000 students enrolled in public schools and 65,000 in private schools.
There are also more than 600 students enrolled in elementary and high school departments in public and private colleges and universities.
Western Visayas does not have a breakdown per area as of posting time.
“So far, the first day of classes is smooth in Western Visayas,” Escular said.
DepEd-Western Visayas led by Regional Director Cristito Eco prayed for people affected by the earthquake in Mindanao Monday.
