More than 61,000 students in Malabon City returned to school on Monday, June 8, as Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the opening of School Year 2026–2027 with flag-raising ceremonies and the distribution of hot meals to learners.
Sandoval attended the first flag-raising ceremonies at Malabon Elementary School and Malabon National High School, where she personally greeted learners and educators.
She assured students that the city government is ready to support schools in providing a safe, orderly, and conducive learning environment.
“Hangad ko ang isang maayos na pagsisimula ng klase ngayong taon. Naniniwala tayo na kapag maganda ang simula ng school year para sa ating mga kabataan, mas magkakaroon sila ng gana na pumasok at magiging masipag at matiyaga sa kanilang pag-aaral (We hope for a smooth start to classes this year. We believe that when the school year begins well for our youth, they will be more encouraged to attend classes and become more diligent and hardworking in their studies),” she said.
Schools Division Office (SDO) Superintendent Juan Obierna, CESO VI, and other officials of the Malabon SDO were also present during the flag-raising ceremonies.
Sandoval also led the distribution of hot meals to students to help energize them on their first day of classes.
The city government said it will continue working with the Department of Education and other stakeholders to improve school facilities, promote student welfare, and strengthen education programs for Malabueño learners.
The SDO said that as of June 2, a total of 61,655 students were enrolled in 42 public elementary and secondary schools for School Year 2026–2027.
Malabon Elementary School has 3,619 enrolled learners, while Malabon National High School recorded 2,540 students, the highest enrollment among the city’s 19 public secondary schools.
On June 3, Sandoval also led the kickoff of Brigada Eskwela 2026 at Imelda Elementary School, where students, parents, teachers, city personnel, and school officials worked together to prepare school facilities for the opening of classes.
