MPD enforces security, traffic rerouting for Independence Day
The Manila Police District (MPD) will deploy personnel and implement road closures and traffic rerouting starting at 2 a.m. on June 12, 2026, as part of security preparations for the 128th Philippine Independence Day celebration.
Brig. Gen. Arnold Casingal Santiago, MPD director, said police visibility will be intensified in key areas, particularly in and around Rizal Park, to maintain peace and order throughout the commemorative activities.
In a traffic advisory, authorities announced that several major roads will be temporarily closed, including Katigbak Drive, Independence Road, South Road, and both lanes of Bonifacio Drive from Anda Circle to P. Burgos Avenue.
Portions of Roxas Boulevard will also be affected, specifically from P. Burgos Avenue to Quirino Avenue, including service roads from Kalaw Avenue to United Nations Avenue. Parts of T.M. Kalaw Avenue, P. Burgos Avenue, Finance Road, and Maria Orosa Street will likewise be closed to traffic.
To manage the expected influx of motorists, rerouting measures will be implemented.
Motorists from A. Mabini Street will be redirected to T.M. Kalaw, while those from U.N. Avenue may take Maria Orosa or J. Bocobo streets as alternate routes.
Meanwhile, trucks and heavy vehicles will be required to use designated “old truck routes,” including Quirino Avenue and Mabini Bridge for northbound traffic, and Capulong, Yuseco, and Lacson avenues for southbound trips.
Authorities noted that the opening and closure of affected roads will depend on the actual traffic situation on the ground.
The MPD urged the public to plan their trips ahead of time and expect heavy traffic in areas near the celebration venues, as security and traffic management operations remain in place throughout the event.
