Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has placed the City of Manila under high alert as a precautionary and preparedness measure following the strong earthquake that struck General Santos City.
The move is part of the Manila city government’s standard disaster preparedness protocol whenever a major earthquake occurs in the country, even if the affected area is outside the National Capital Region.
Domagoso also directed the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD) to prepare for possible deployment should assistance be needed in General Santos City and other areas affected by the earthquake.
At the same time, the mayor ordered the immediate inspection and monitoring of old buildings, public schools, government offices, and other critical facilities across Manila to ensure their structural safety in the event of aftershocks or future seismic activity.
City officials said the measures are intended to ensure that Manila remains prepared, vigilant, and ready to respond to any emergency while safeguarding residents' welfare.
