Here comes a new challenger from the Philippines!
'Street Fighter' introduces new character Yasmine
Now in its fourth year, Street Fighter 6 is introducing new characters to its roster, and one of them happens to come from the Philippines. They even got the penchant of Filipinos to change the spellings of common names down. Yasmine is described as a shy but determined high schooler on a mission to find her brother.
Dressed in a blue ensemble with a sun on her shoulder and red linings – reminiscent of the Philippine flag. Yasmine uses a karambit knife with engravings and a blue jewel embedded in it. She uses the crescent-shaped blade to “dance around her opponents at high speed, just like her Lolo taught her.”
Originating from the Malay archipelago, including Indonesia and Malaysia, before making its way to the Philippines. “Karambit,” in the Minangkabau language, which is spoken in West Sumatra, Indonesia, translates to “the claw of a tiger or eagle.” This, of course, refers to the shape of the blade.
Originally used for harvesting crops, cutting, or pruning plants, the karambit also gained a reputation as a formidable self-defense weapon because it can be easily concealed due to its size. Women have also been known to carry a karambit to protect themselves.
Yasmine is slated to debut as the first DLC (Downloadable content) character for Street Fighter 6 Year 4, starting August 3, 2026. Other characters in the lineup include Arjun, Bosch, and Tifa Lockhart from Square Enix's Final Fantasy.
