By 6 a.m., the campus was already filled with the cheerful faces of nearly 2,000 students eagerly awaiting the flag-raising ceremony.
Teachers and parents expressed joy that the first day of classes was peaceful and orderly, with no reported problems.
“Masaya ang mukha ng maraming estudyante, parang punong-puno ng pag-asa, kahit halatang may kaba na mayroong halong pananabik, na makita nila ang mga dati at bago nilang mga kaklase (The faces of many students were happy, as if full of hope, although there was an obvious nervousness mixed with excitement, as they looked forward to seeing their old and new classmates),” one teacher observed, noting the mix of nervousness and excitement among the children.
Despite the festive mood, challenges remain. With classrooms still insufficient for the growing student population, the school continues to implement a shifting schedule: kindergarten to Grade 3 in the morning, and Grades 4 to 6 in the afternoon.
Grade 4 students interviewed said they were thrilled to reunite with friends but admitted feeling anxious about new lessons, exams, and teachers.
