DTI secures multi-year partnership to expand women enterprise fund access
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has extended its partnership with the Women’s Business Council Philippines Inc. (WomenBizPH) for another six years to broaden public and private sector support for women-led businesses.
Trade Secretary Cristina Roque signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with WomenBizPH officials on Monday, June 8, reaffirming both parties’ commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs and enterprises nationwide. This new agreement formalizes the extension of a partnership established in 2021 to advance women’s economic empowerment through shared goals.
This empowerment will be driven by coordinated programs in policy advocacy, market access, digital transformation, access to finance, and regional economic integration. The DTI noted that the MOA reflects the vital role women-owned businesses play in national development, innovation, job creation, and inclusive economic growth. Furthermore, these joint efforts will outline a clear framework for both organizations to dismantle common barriers faced by female entrepreneurs, such as gender bias in the business environment.
“To all the women entrepreneurs, we feel your potential, we feel your grit, and we support your dreams. This partnership with WomenBizPhilippines is our institutional commitment to your success,” Roque said.
Under the MOA, the DTI recognizes WomenBizPH as its strategic partner and lead private sector group for women’s economic empowerment initiatives. Consequently, the DTI will endorse the organization as the primary private sector representative for women-focused economic and business forums both locally and abroad. The department will also collaborate with WomenBizPH to roll out grant-funded and donor-supported projects, while gathering industry insights on proposed regulatory measures affecting women in business.
Meanwhile, WomenBizPH will serve as a partner-provider of digital advisory and learning services, offering expertise in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and market access. The organization will also help promote and coordinate the Small Business (SB) Corp.’s loan program, the Women Enterprise Fund (WEF). Additionally, WomenBizPH will establish a dedicated women’s mentorship hotline and introduce tailored mentorship programs through the DTI’s network of Negosyo Centers across the country.
The updated MOA will remain valid for six years and is eligible for renewal upon expiration.
