CEBU CITY – The opening of classes in Central Visayas on Monday, June 8, was marked by a low enrollment rate.
The Department of Education Central Visayas (DepEd-7) recorded about 1.3 million learners during the opening of school year 2026-2027. DepEd-7’s enrollment target for this school was set at 1.6 million.
DepEd 7 Information Officer Amaryllis Villarmia said the enrollment rate is still expected to rise as schools continue processing late enrollees.
Schools Division Offices are also updating and consolidating enrollment data.
According to Villarmia, enrollment remains open despite the start of classes. Late enrollees will be accommodated until the last week of June.
Student transfers, financial difficulties in private schools, delayed school records, family-related concerns, relocation, and zoning issues are among the reasons cited for late enrollment.
DepEd-7 Regional Director Arturo Bayocot assessed that the opening of the school year went smoothly.
“We are in good shape. Generally, our schools are ready based on Brigada Eskwela turnout. All students are contained in classrooms," Bayocot said in a statement.
Bayocot said Learning Continuity Spaces were constructed in areas that were hit by earthquakes last year.
