CANDON CITY — Alas Pilipinas regained its confidence and vented its ire on Kyrgyzstan, 25-9, 25-11, 25-17, in the 2026 AVC Women's Volleyball Cup here at the Candon City Arena Monday, June 8.
Coming off a heartbreaking five-set loss to Australia, the Nationals, led by skipper Alyssa Valdez, set the tone early and executed a near-flawless performance on both ends, blowing past the Kyrgyz bets to clinch their second victory in the continental meet.
With a 2-1 win-loss card, the Philippines remained at No. 2 and could further bolster its position when it squares off with South Korea (2-0) on Tuesday, June 9, at the same venue.
It was a crucial victory for the host country as another loss could be a big blow for the Philippines as only the top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinal.
Alas now turns its focus on South Korea and Chinese Taipei for its next two assignments on June 9 and 11, respectively.
Kyrgyzstan, for its run, suffered its third defeat in as many outings and it tries to keep its podium bid alive when it tangles with Australia also on Tuesday.
Thea Gagate uncorked 11 points on eight attacks, two blocks, and one ace, while Jovelyn Gonzaga scored 10 points.
Gonzaga’s fellow veterans Alyssa Valdez and Ces Molina registered nine and eight points, respectively. Nina Ytang added eight points for the Shaq Delos Santos-mentored crew.
Kyrgyzstan struggled big time with Aiturgan Aitbekova’s four points topping the team's scoring.
During their match against Kyrgyzstan, Alas Pilipinas players were seen wearing uniforms with the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) logo covered.
