ZAMBOANGA CITY – A total of 1,010 persons or 255 families here evacuated following a tsunami warning due to the magnitude-7.8 earthquake Monday in Sarangani.
People immediately evacuated after the water level in the coastline of Barangay Maricaban receded.
Coastal communities here are closely being monitored after the Department of Science and Technology issued a tsunami warning to provinces affected by the tremor.
The Zamboanga City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office has implemented forced evacuation procedures on all coastal communities in the east coast in response to the tsunami warning.
Aside from disaster personnel, military and police, together with the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine Coast Guard, and barangay officials were deployed to the area to monitor the situation.
