A 26-year-old female jogger was injured after being hit by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) driven by an 18-year-old man in Antipolo City, Rizal on Saturday morning, June 6.
Based on the report of the Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO), the accident occurred around 6:04 a.m. while the victim, whom police said had been jogging earlier, was waiting to cross the road along Daang Bakal in Barangay Dela Paz.
CCTV footage from a nearby residence showed the victim waiting to cross the road when an MPV coming from the opposite direction crossed into the opposite lane and struck her, causing her to be thrown several meters away.
Authorities said that after hitting the victim, the MPV continued moving and crashed into a parked motorcycle and tricycle along the roadside before coming to a stop.
They added that the MPV driver attempted to flee the scene and was chased by several motorists and bystanders before being forced to stop along P. Oliveros Street due to a flat tire.
“The driver was subsequently apprehended by the responding OPSS personnel,” police said.
Authorities also said there was no indication that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, based on his medical examination results.
Meanwhile, the victim was brought to Rizal Provincial Hospital Annex 2 in Antipolo City for medical treatment.
Authorities said the parties involved agreed to an amicable settlement, with the driver agreeing to shoulder the repair costs of the damaged vehicles and the victim's medical expenses.
