NGCP, Philippine Coast Guard ink agreement to secure critical grid infrastructure
NGCP President and CEO Anthony L. Almeda and PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement witnessed by key NGCP and PCG officials.
Power transmission network system provider NGCP and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) officially formalized a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to fortify the security, resilience, and emergency response capabilities surrounding the nation’s critical maritime energy infrastructure.
The ceremony, held at the National Headquarters of the Philippine Coast Guard, was attended by key officials from both institutions led by NGCP President and CEO Mr. Anthony L. Almeda and PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan.
NGCP expressed its gratitude to the Coast Guard for their vital support, emphasizing its importance in ensuring the grid's security and reliability. "With this partnership, we aim to strengthen coordination so we can respond faster during emergencies and disasters, while continuing to uphold maritime safety, environmental protection, and national security," Mr. Almeda said.
The PCG said that the agreement -- its most challenging yet essential partnership to date -- is a win-win undertaking for both institutions, representing a significant step forward in inter-agency cooperation and information sharing. "We recognize that without power, we cannot progress, exist, or survive. This MOA reflects our shared commitment to protect the submarine cable systems and infrastructure that play a vital role in government operations, economic stability, and public safety."
Under the newly signed MOA, the PCG will help secure NGCP's submarine cables, including its fiber optic network, critical in power transmission and communication across the grid, acting as first responder to any emergencies involving NGCP’s maritime assets.
