The Manila Police District (MPD) is investigating a viral road rage involving a motorcycle rider and his backrider, who allegedly attacked another motorist in Sampaloc, Manila.

The incident reportedly happened along Maceda Street corner P. Florentino Street in Barangay 519 at around 2:58 a.m. on June 1.

Police said the victim and the suspects were traveling along P. Florentino Street, a one-way road, when they met in the middle portion of the street.

The victim was heading toward Maceda Street, while the suspects were allegedly traveling in the opposite direction.

Upon reaching the intersection and stopping at a red traffic light, the backrider allegedly approached the victim and hit his helmet using another helmet.

Police said the motorcycle rider also allegedly shouted at the victim and punched him.

The victim immediately drove away out of fear for his safety.

The MPD said the incident came to its attention after a video of the attack circulated on social media.

The victim went to the Sampaloc Police Station on June 3 to report the incident. He said his helmet and motorcycle intercom were damaged and that he was unable to report for work due to stress and anxiety.

MPD acting district director Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Santiago condemned the incident and reminded motorists to observe patience, discipline, and respect for traffic rules.

“We strongly condemn all forms of violence and road rage and remind motorists to exercise patience, discipline, and respect for traffic laws at all times. We likewise encourage the public to immediately report incidents of violence and unlawful conduct to the nearest police station so that appropriate action may be taken promptly,” Santiago said.

Police urged the public to report incidents of violence and unlawful acts to the nearest police station.
