Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay on Saturday, June 6, announced that the city is closer to attaining full drug-cleared status after Barangay Guadalupe Viejo, the last of its 23 barangays, earned official certification.
Barangay Guadalupe Viejo was declared drug-cleared following the validation and deliberation of the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC), recently hosted by the Makati City Government through the Makati Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC).
“The successful declaration of Barangay Guadalupe Viejo as drug-cleared is a major achievement not only for the barangay, but for the entire City of Makati. With all 23 barangays now recognized as drug-cleared, we are now one step closer to becoming a fully declared drug-cleared city," the mayor said.
Binay said the declaration marked a significant step towards the city's goal of being declared a drug-cleared city.
“This latest development is a reflection of the city’s sustained commitment to public safety, community welfare, and collaborative governance,” she said.
The mayor acknowledged the collective efforts of barangay officials, law enforcement agencies, health workers, community leaders, and residents, as well as their continued support for the city’s anti-drug initiatives, in achieving the accomplishment.
Binay vowed that Makati will continue strengthening community-based programs focused on prevention, rehabilitation, education, and citizen participation to sustain the gains of its anti-drug campaign and promote safer and healthier communities.
The Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) is the regional body responsible for reviewing and validating barangays under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program.
It is chaired by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Director, with representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Health (DOH), and local government units serving as members.
Under DILG guidelines, a barangay may only be declared drug-cleared after undergoing a strict assessment and validation process to ensure compliance with national anti-drug standards.
