CANDON CITY – The Alas Pilipinas kicked off its campaign at the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup in style with a 25-16, 25-12, 25-14 of Uzbekistan at the Candon City Arena here on Saturday, June 6.
Seasoned players Alyssa Valdez, Jovelyn Gonzaga and Ces Molina provided the spark for the Nationals, but attention also turned to collegiate standout Alyssa Solomon, who remained on the bench throughout the match.
Alas interim head coach Shaq Delos Santos said they are just preparing the 6-foot-1 outside hitter for the team’s future matches.
“Nire-ready namin,” Delos Santos said. “Kasi siyempre galing siya sa mahabang bakasyon. Pero good thing, ready siyang maglaro.”
“Gusto lang namin na mas prepare [sya] and syempre ‘yong gelling niya sa team. Wala namang problema, on and off the court,” he added.
Solomon joined the Nationals’ training in Candon after opting to skip this year’s PVL Draft. However, questions about her inclusion to the team surfaced when her name was omitted from an updated roster posted on the tournament’s official website.
But Delos Santos assured Solomon was 100 percent healthy and ready to suit up for the team.
