Tropical Depression Ester has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but the southwest monsoon or habagat will continue to bring moderate to heavy rains over several provinces in Northern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, June 6.
The agency said Tropical Depression Ester exited the PAR at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Despite Ester’s exit, the state weather bureau said the southwest monsoon remains the dominant weather system affecting parts of Luzon.
In Weather Advisory No. 30 issued at 11 a.m., PAGASA said accumulated rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters (mm) is expected over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, and Zambales from Saturday until noon of Sunday, June 7.
The same amount of rainfall is forecast over Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur from noon of Sunday until noon of Monday, June 8.
PAGASA noted that forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas due to terrain effects.
Likewise, the agency warned that the impacts of the rains could be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall or rain that has already accumulated from previous weather systems.
