Police arrested a ride-hailing driver for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of a 52-year-old man in Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City, on Wednesday, June 3, while a manhunt continues for his motorcycle-riding companion who pulled the trigger.
The victim was shot dead by one of two suspects on a motorcycle while walking home with a companion along Kagawad Road corner Mabini Street.
Residents immediately reported the incident to Batasan Police Station 6, prompting a swift response from operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit and local police.
Investigators conducted CCTV backtracking and forward tracking, which showed the suspects fleeing on a gray Honda Click motorcycle through San Mateo, Rizal; Marikina City; UP Diliman in Quezon City; and eventually reaching Barangay 171 in Caloocan City.
Through coordination with barangay officials and witnesses, police later identified one of the suspects and traced his location, leading to a stakeout operation.
The suspect, identified as alias “Jemar,” 29, a Grab driver from Caloocan City, was arrested at around 12:13 a.m. on June 5.
Recovered from him were a red “MOVE IT” helmet, a green long-sleeved shirt with “GRAB” markings, cream rubber shoes, a gray Honda Click motorcycle, and a TECNO mobile phone.
He will face a murder complaint before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, while follow-up operations continue to locate his motorcycle-riding companion, who remains at large.
QCPD chief Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio said all available leads are being pursued to ensure the immediate arrest of the remaining suspect and the resolution of the case.
