Traffic along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) northbound in Quezon City slowed on Friday morning, June 5, after an oil tanker struck concrete barriers at the Quezon Avenue flyover.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the incident occurred at around 5:26 a.m. when the tanker hit 11 concrete barriers and one plastic barrier while descending the flyover.
The MMDA added that the tanker, which was carrying gasoline from Batangas to La Union, did not suffer fuel leak, while the driver and helper were both reported safe.
The incident led to the temporary closure of the Quezon Avenue flyover for more than two hours, forcing motorists to take the service road and causing traffic buildup along the EDSA northbound corridor, which also affected sections of the EDSA Bus Carousel lane.
By 8:12 a.m., the tanker was removed from the area, followed by cleanup of minor oil residue on the roadway.
The flyover was reopened to motorists at around 8:30 a.m. after clearing operations were completed.
