Ledesma urges Negros Occidental LGUs to declare SP Cayetano as persona non grata

BACOLOD CITY – Negros Occidental first district Rep. Julio Ledesma IV urged local government units under his legislative district to declare Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano as persona non grata or unwanted person for trivializing his duty as a legislator amid recent developments in the Senate.
“This is my ask of our district and I will get this,” Ledesma stated in a social media post directed to Escalante City, San Carlos City, Calatrava, Don Salvador Benedicto, and Toboso.
“Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano – you are a disgrace to the Senate, and as a former member of the House – you’ve done this twice.”
San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo refused to comment on Ledesma’s appeal and said he has to consult his lawyers. However, he noted that he will support Ledesma if there is a basis.
Gustilo believes that the root cause of events at the Senate is the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., president of the Association of Chief Executives (ACE) of Negros Occidental, said they have not discussed Ledesma’s appeal.
“We will see what will be the mayors’ reactions with regard to the statement of Ledesma,” Escalante said.
Escalante said recent events have made the Senate entirely different. “That’s not the Senate that we know. It’s more on politics. What’s wrong? he said.
Escalante said “we deserve what we get,” referring to individuals elected to the Senate.
He urged the people to carefully elect candidates. “This is not just popularity contest. It’s not just about being a good talker and intelligent. This is about integrity,” Escalante said.
Escalante believes that this is all because of the impeachment and too much politics.
