Ex-Taguig mayor Cayetano welcomes role as new PTV-4 chief, vows transparency and wider reach
Lino Cayetano, former Taguig mayor and congressman representing the city’s 2nd District, said he is "honored" to head the state‑run People’s Television Network (PTV‑4) and vowed to expand its reach and content.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed Cayetano as the new general manager of PTV, replacing Maria Lourdes Choa‑Fagar.
Cayetano, the brother of Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano, served as Taguig mayor from 2019 to 2022.
He did not seek reelection in 2022 to give way to Lani Cayetano, wife of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who won the mayoral race.
As PTV’s new head, Cayetano pledged to expand the network’s reach and presence.
“Together, I hope we can expand our reach across free TV, digital broadcast and social media platforms, while also strengthening our international, regional and local presence — so that we reach every region and every corner of the country to serve Filipinos wherever they are,” he said in a Facebook post.
He added that PTV’s content should not only focus on news and governance but also highlight entertainment and culture.
“PTV‑4 should help lead in celebrating our stories, our places, our music, our talents, and our identity as a people,” he said.
As a government network, Cayetano stressed that PTV has “a special responsibility: to inform and to bring the work of government closer to every Filipino, making it easier to reach and access.”
He emphasized that “when information is shared openly, it builds transparency. Transparency is the foundation of good governance. This is where our news and public affairs will play its most important role.”
Cayetano is also a film and television director.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of the Philippines and a Diploma in Film from the New York Film Academy.
Before his mayoral stint, he was elected congressman for one term from 2013 to 2016.
In 2025, he ran for congressman in the 1st District of Taguig‑Pateros but lost.
