BACOLOD CITY – Two suspected robbers were arrested for allegedly shooting two intelligence officers of the Bacolod City Police Office in Barangay Singcang-Airport here on Wednesday, June 3.
Police identified the suspects as Toto, 29, of Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, and Tomas, 28, of Barangay 2 here.
Police Major Lyndon Manilla, head of Police Station 8, said the two policemen were on their way to the BCPO headquarters when they were shot by the suspects onboard a motorcycle.
The suspects missed and fled and the lawmen returned fire.
Police pursued the suspects who were apprehended in Barangay Singcang-Airport after their motorcycle crashed.
Recovered from the suspects were a gun, four sachets of suspected shabu weighing 20 grams and valued at P136,000, the motorcycle, and a cellphone.
The suspects were allegedly involved in a robbery hold-up incident in the city the day before.
Charges for illegal possession of dangerous drugs, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and attempted murder will be filed against the suspects, Manilla said.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing. Nobody was wounded among the police officers.
Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, director of Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), lauded the swift action of operating units that he said underscored their resolve to ensure that individuals who attack law enforcement officers and engage in criminal activities are immediately brought to justice.
