A 28-year-old robbery suspect was arrested after allegedly kicking a 20-year-old college student off a footbridge during a hold-up attempt in Barangay Culiat, Quezon City, on Tuesday, June 2.
The victim sustained serious injuries after falling from the elevated walkway while resisting the suspect’s attempt to steal her mobile phone.
Investigation showed that the student and her 44-year-old vendor mother were crossing a footbridge at the corner of Luzon Avenue and Congressional Avenue at around 8 p.m. when the suspect approached them.
Armed with a nine-inch long folding knife, the suspect declared a hold-up and took the mother’s shoulder bag containing ₱5,500 in cash.
He then tried to grab the student’s mobile phone worth ₱8,000.
When the victim fought back, the suspect allegedly kicked her, sending her plunging off the footbridge.
The student had a broken bone in her face and head, a broken bone in her upper left arm, and several scrapes, while her mother had bruises.
The victims shouted for help, prompting nearby bystanders to chase and restrain the suspect as he tried to flee.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) personnel conducting visibility patrols in the area quickly responded and arrested the suspect.
Authorities recovered the stolen shoulder bag, the ₱5,500 cash, the mobile phone, and the knife used in the crime.
Both victims were rushed to a hospital.
The suspect remains in police custody and faces charges of robbery with serious physical injuries and robbery with violence against or intimidation of persons.
