Calvin Oftana wasn’t crying over spilled milk and quickly moved on after a non-call on his supposed overtime sending shot in the final 0.6 seconds of the TNT’s 100-106 loss to Barangay Ginebra in Game 1 of the PBA Season 50 Finals series.
The Tropang 5G forward caught the ball in mid-air for an alley oop layup off an inbound play but he was bothered by Justin Brownlee enough to miss the potential overtime sending shot.
TNT head coach Chot Reyes felt Oftana was bumped and fouled during the sequence as he went all the way to the other side of the court toward the officials table to ask for a foul in the final play.
Oftana said he believes there should have been a foul called on the final play although he admitted it was too hard to call for the referees given the remaining time on the clock.
“Alam ko may foul talaga pero 0.6 seconds na lang. Talagang glimpse of an eye na lang talaga yung nangyari,” said Oftana after the game.
The TNT star, however, quickly shrugged off the non-call and instead chose to focus on what they can control in the next game.
Oftana stressed TNT couldn’t have fallen to that situation if they only performed well, particularly in the first half where they had to climb back from 18 points down.
“Siyempre (nakakahinayang), pero pag ganun kasi sa late game mas maiisip mo yung first half namin. Ang sama rin kasi ang dami naming turnovers. We are not making our shots,” explained Oftana.
“Credit to them kami naman ang dami naming mali mga ganung bagay first quarter palang second quarter. Iyon yung malaking bagay,” he added.
All is not lost for TNT as it can tie the series on Game 2 on Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Mahaba pa naman yung series it’s a best-of-seven game so move forward na lang and adjust,” he added
