ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – Responders recovered a live chicken in the collapsed building here on Thursday, June 4.
The chicken, found during the 12th day of search and retrieval operations, is believed to be owned by one of the workers affected by the incident.
Responders said it may have been responsible for several life detector activations recorded in the area in the past few days.
These gave rescue teams hope that people may still be alive in the building.
Two more bodies were recovered on Wednesday evening in the building, bringing the death toll to 27.
The Unified Command said the 26th body was extricated from the site at 6:38 p.m. and turned over to appropriate authorities at 7:14 p.m. for Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) procedures.
The 27th body was found 11 minutes later at 6:49 p.m. and also turned over at 7:14 p.m. for identification.
The nine-story building under construction collapsed after heavy rain before dawn on Sunday, May 24.
Twenty-seven individuals survived the incident.
Authorities have yet to determine why the building collapsed.
Search efforts continue for those still unaccounted for in Ground Zero.
