Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan is currently confined at The Medical City and remains under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), his lawyer informed the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division on Thursday, June 4.
Bonoan did not physically appear before the anti-graft court for the scheduled arraignment of the plunder and graft charges filed against him.
His co-accused, Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Ejercito Estrada and three DPWH engineers, were present during the court proceedings.
During the hearing, Bonoan’s counsel informed the court that his client is confined at The Medical City and is seeking to remain under hospital arrest while facing the charges.
The Sandiganbayan directed Bonoan’s counsel to submit a medical certificate issued by his attending physicians in support of the motion.
The prosecution, meanwhile, informed the court that it had already filed its comment on Bonoan’s motion seeking hospital arrest.
For its part, Bonoan’s camp said it is coordinating with doctors at The Medical City regarding the submission of the required medical documents.
Records showed that on June 3, Bonoan’s camp filed a motion seeking his placement under hospital arrest while he faces the plunder and graft charges pending before the Sandiganbayan.
