BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office reintroduced the 911 emergency hotline to enhance immediate police response and reporting of incidents for a safer Negros Island Region (NIR).
Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, director of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), led the launching of the hotline, along with Police Col. Eugene Rebadomia, Bacolod police director, barangay officials, various stakeholders, and other law enforcement agencies at the BCPO headquarters on Thursday, June 4.
Since his designation to NIR last month, Cardiño has vowed to implement a secure region through the S.A.F.E. program, emphasizing the significance of the 911 emergency hotline to achieve its goal.
S.A.F.E. means Seen, Appreciated, Felt, and Extraordinary.
In his message, Cardiño said that they are bringing government services closer to the people and make public safety more accessible to every community.
He added that the launching of S.A.F.E. NIR Dial 911 is a testament to their unwavering commitment to responsive, technology-driven, and people-centered policing.
“This initiative ensures that every call for assistance is promptly received. Every emergency is immediately acted upon, and every citizen gains greater confidence knowing that help is available whenever it is needed,” Cardiño said.
He stressed that through this program, they would be able to strengthen their capability to save lives, respond to critical incidents, and provide faster and more efficient police service in the region.
Cardiño appealed for public’s cooperation, stressing that public safety is a shared responsibility.
He commended this highly-urbanized city and the BCPO for taking proactive steps in supporting such regional initiative.
Rebadomia said that this program is designed to make emergency response, faster, and accessible and always responsive to the needs of the community. “The people should not have to remember a dozen of hotline numbers, but 911 is enough,” he added.
He said that looking for numbers of police stations, rescue units, and personnel is not enough for an emergency plan.
Rebadomia said that this program is more than just a hotline, it is a promise that help is always one call a way.
The BCPO has been encouraging the public to report incidents to the police instead of posting on social media for immediate action.
The National Police Commission (Napolcom)-NIR and the city government, represented by Councilor Pao Sy, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Peace and Order, backed the initiative.
Police released white and blue balloons before conducting a caravan around this city for awareness.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said that the city is awaiting final clearance from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the localized implementation of the Unified 911 Emergency Response System which forms part of the Philippine National Police's efforts to strengthen emergency response capabilities throughout the region.
