A 33-year-old robbery suspect was arrested after he was overpowered by his victim and the victim’s brother during a holdup at a junk shop in Barangay Talipapa, Quezon City.
Police said the suspect, identified as alias “Rolando,” and an accomplice arrived at the junk shop around 4 a.m. on June 1 aboard two scooter-type motorcycles while carrying a sack of assorted junk materials as cover.
Investigators said Rolando later pulled out an unlicensed UZI submachine gun and declared a robbery after entering the establishment, while his companion stayed outside as lookout.
The victim was forced to hand over P1,500, but resisted, triggering a commotion inside the shop.
The victim then called for help, prompting his brother, who was nearby, to rush to the scene and help overpower the suspect.
The accomplice managed to escape on foot toward Mindanao Avenue before authorities arrived.
Responding personnel from Talipapa Police Station 3 arrested Rolando at the scene and recovered the stolen money.
Recovered from the suspect were the UZI submachine gun loaded with 14 live rounds, two scooter-type motorcycles, assorted personal belongings, and the P1,500 loot.
Police said Rolando failed to present documents for the firearm, which was later confirmed to be unlicensed.
The suspect is facing charges of robbery with threat and intimidation in relation to Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act No. 11235 or the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act, before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Follow-up operations are ongoing for the arrest of his accomplice, identified as alias “Alejo,” 31, of Barangay Tandang Sora, Quezon City.
