Parañaque City has deployed 1,315 transport workers to assist in school preparations under the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the beneficiaries, drawn from tricycle operators and drivers associations (TODA) and public utility vehicle operators associations (PODA), will be assigned to 46 public elementary and secondary schools across the city.
Their tasks include clean-up, maintenance, repair, and beautification ahead of the opening of classes.
Each worker will receive ₱695 per day for 10 days of work, with eight hours of service daily.
The deployment is expected to be completed within four to five days to ensure schools are ready before the school year begins.
The program was launched during Brigada Eskwela at La Huerta Elementary School in Barangay La Huerta, where Olivarez joined teachers, parents, and volunteers in repainting classrooms and preparing facilities.
Olivarez said the initiative addresses two key needs: preparing schools for the academic year and providing temporary employment to transport workers affected by rising fuel prices and operating costs.
He added that the partnership among the city government, DOLE, and the education sector underscores a shared commitment to creating safe and learner-friendly environments while extending livelihood support to disadvantaged workers.
