A police officer’s arrest of a 76‑year‑old driver in Taguig has drawn sharp criticism online after a video of the incident went viral.
The footage, uploaded on June 2 by digital creator Tenants Ray Rice, shows the officer handcuffing the elderly man—wearing a shirt marked “service driver”—and forcibly pulling him into a vehicle. The uploader identified him as a driver from Barangay Lower Bicutan.
According to the description, the driver had accidentally hit the policeman’s car.
“Driver ng Barangay Lower Bicutan na nakasagi ng sasakyan ng isang Pulis pinusasan at puwersahang isinakay sa kanyang sasakayan (Driver from Barangay Lower Bicutan who hit a policeman’s vehicle was handcuffed and forcibly taken into his vehicle)," the post read.
The video quickly spread, amassing 2.9 million views, over 22,000 comments, and more than 27,000 shares.
Netizens condemned the officer’s actions, with comments such as “D n kayo naawa sa matanda” and “Grab ang ginawa kay tatay wlang awa."
Taguig police later confirmed the incident occurred at MLQ Avenue corner Mauling Creek in Barangay Bagumbayan.
They said CCTV footage showed a minor collision between the vehicles, which was later settled amicably through a compromise agreement.
However, police noted the driver attempted to leave the scene, prompting the officer’s intervention.
Authorities announced the officer’s conduct will be referred to Police Regional Office 4A for administrative review.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Ralph Calinisan of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) reposted the viral video and ordered the policeman to report to his office to explain.
