Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso led the presentation together with officials of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD) at Bulwagang Villegas in Manila City Hall.
The activity highlighted the city’s preparations for possible weather disturbances and other hazards associated with the rainy season, including the potential effects of El Niño.
City officials presented various early warning and monitoring devices that will be used to help improve weather surveillance, risk assessment, and emergency response operations in flood-prone and vulnerable communities across Manila.
According to the city government, the equipment forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance disaster preparedness and provide residents with timely warnings during severe weather events.
Domagoso emphasized the importance of readiness and proactive measures in minimizing the impact of natural hazards, noting that disaster preparedness remains one of the priorities of his administration.
The mayor said strengthening the city’s early warning capabilities would help government responders act faster and allow residents to prepare ahead of emergencies.
The MCDRRMD likewise reiterated its commitment to maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of weather conditions and coordinating closely with concerned agencies to ensure an immediate response whenever necessary.
The presentation comes as local government units across the country continue preparations for the onset of the rainy season and the possibility of extreme weather conditions in the coming months.
