Gilas Girls romp Vietnam to open SEABA in style

The Gilas Pilipinas girls' team opened its campaign in the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup SEABA qualifiers in style, blasting Vietnam, 93-42 at the STI West Negros University Gym in Bacolod City on Tuesday, June 2.

The Filipinas broke the game wide open behind a searing second quarter that saw them outscore the Vietnamese 26-7 and never looked back since then.

The Nationals were pesky on the defensive end, evident with their 28 steals that fueled their running game as they converted 55 points off those turnovers.

Rhiane Perez led the way for Gilas with 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks while Zaydhen Rosano chipped in eight points.

Tiffany Reyes, who trained in the US and daughter of former PBA player Jay-R, finished with 14 points, five rebounds and two steals while another second generation player in Sophia Dignadice, daughter of PBA great Yves, did a little bit of every in 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and six steals.

Gilas faces Singapore next on Wednesday at the same venue.
