DAVAO CITY – The Davao Light and Power Co. Inc. has taken possession of electricity distribution assets in the remaining 20 barangays on the Island Garden City of Samal following the implementation of a court order on May 28, the company confirmed on Tuesday, June 2.
Davao Light said in a statement that the sheriff of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 4, in Panabo City, has issued the Supplemental Writ of Possession, allowing the company to begin serving 16 barangays in Samal Island and four in Talicud Island in the Igacos.
These areas are Adecor, Anonang, Aumbay, Aundanao, Bandera, Cogon, Dadatan, Kanaan, Libertad, Licup, Linosutan, Pangubatan, San Remigio, Santa Cruz (all in Talicud), Peñaplata (Poblacion), Poblacion (Kaputian), San Isidro (Kaputian), Sion, Tagbaobo, and Tagbitan-ag.
Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Enriczar Tia said the company will handle the full range of electric distribution services across the island, including system operations and maintenance, customer service, billing, and collection.
According to Davao Light, the move is a key step in the transition of electricity distribution services in Igacos. It provides legal clarity for the implementation of the Republic Act No. 12144, which expanded the company's franchise area.
"We welcome this latest development as we continue moving forward with the implementation of Republic Act No. 12144. Davao Light remains focused on delivering safe, reliable, and dependable electricity service to the communities within its expanded franchise area," Tia said.
The company official added that it will work with government agencies, local government units, and other sectors to ensure the court's directives are implemented peacefully and that the transition proceeds in an orderly manner.
Davao Light reiterated that service continuity, system reliability, safety, and consumer welfare remain guiding priorities. It also reaffirmed its commitment to rehabilitate and improve the distribution system to address power reliability and service quality concerns in Igacos.
