Valenzuela City residents can now earn rewards by turning over recyclable materials through the city’s Trash-to-Cashback: May Balik sa Basura Program.
The program, led by the Valenzuela City government through the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), aims to encourage proper waste segregation and recycling at the household level.
Residents may submit recyclable materials such as sachets, straws, plastic bags, paper, cartons, metals, glass containers, and used cooking oil.
Each recyclable item is assigned a corresponding Environmental Point (EP), with higher points awarded for properly segregated and complete recyclable materials.
Accumulated points may be exchanged for grocery items, services, and other rewards through partner merchants.
The points are stored in a rewards card issued by Basic Environmental Systems, Inc., one of the city’s program partners.
Since its launch in November 2025, the city government has conducted information campaigns in various barangays to educate residents on proper waste segregation and how to participate in the program.
Barangay Canumay West recorded the highest unofficial volume of recyclables collected as of May 26. Other barangays with significant collections include Ugong, Veinte Reales, Paso de Blas, Malinta, Pasolo, Palasan, Wawang Pulo, and Bisig.
The program will officially begin its collection phase in June this year.
The city government said it will also provide additional grocery items based on the volume of recyclables turned over by residents.
The initiative aims to reduce waste, promote environmental responsibility, and encourage more Valenzuelanos to make recycling part of their daily routine.
