PRO-8 now has a solar power system in place.
TACLOBAN CITY -- The Police Regional Office-8 is going green as it inaugurated a 48-kilowatt, three-phase solar photovoltaic system in Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Palo, Leyte, on Tuesday.
The solar power system for classrooms and buildings inside the camp will significantly reduce electricity costs and provide a more stable power source from renewable resources.
The hybrid system utilizes solar energy and electricity supplied by the electric cooperative.
To date, buildings have reduced their consumption from the electric cooperative by 95 percent.
Police Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy, PRO-8 chief, emphasized the need for alternative energy sources, especially since Eastern Visayas is frequently hit by tropical cyclones, which disrupt fuel and electricity supplies.
“This facility stands as a symbol of innovation, progress, and our shared responsibility to build a more sustainable future for the PNP and the communities we serve. Let’s go 100-percent solar,” he said.
National Police Commission-8 Director Risty Sibay praised the initiative that highlights the Philippine National Police's commitment to environmental care and disaster readiness.
