While President Marcos said the Department of Education (DepEd) "knows perfectly well who to do" in the opening of classes, he instructed them to ensure that learning for students will be uninterrupted.
"DepEd knows perfectly well what to do. Hindi na natin sila kailangang turuan (We no longer need to teach them)," Marcos said in an interview during his visit to Kapitbahayan Elementary School in Navotas City on Tuesday, June 2, to lead the Brigada Eskwela in Metro Manila.
"But yun na nga, we are just improving the facilities. Kung may instruction man ako, tiyakin nila na handa sila sa pagbukas ng klase, eskwela para naman hindi nabibitin yung mga bata. Tuloy tuloy ang kanilang pag-aaral (If I have any instruction, it is to make sure they are ready for the opening of classes and schools, so that the students are not left hanging. Their learning should continue without interruption)," Marcos added.
Among the facilities they are trying to improve is the installment of security cameras within the schools.
Having security cameras in schools, Marcos stressed, would ensure that students are safe and secure. If anything happens, teachers can immediately respond to it, he added.
"Ang una nating pinuntahan ay ‘yung CCTV (closed-circuit television). Nagkabit tayo ng CCTV. I think dito sa eskuwelahan na ito they have 16 cameras, 16 cameras para bantayan, na tiyakin na ‘yung mga bata ay ligtas at safe sila (The first thing we worked on was the CCTV system. We installed CCTV cameras. I think this school now has 16 cameras—16 cameras for monitoring and ensuring that the children are safe and secure)," Marcos said.
"At kung mayroon mangyari ay alam kaagad nung mga teacher, alam kaagad nung mga administrator. Kaya ‘yun ang inuna namin (And if anything happens, the teachers will know immediately, and the administrators will know immediately as well. That's why we prioritized that first)," he added.
Carrying the theme 'Bayanihan sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman,' this year’s brigada eskwela is being held nationwide from June 1 to 5 in preparation for the opening of classes on June 8.
During his school visit, the President inspected the ongoing school preparations and safety facilities, visited partner organizations’ booths, observed an ongoing 'Tara, Basa!' session that prepares Grade 2 learners to be grade-level ready, and participates in literacy activities, including a storytelling session with selected Grade 1 learners.
"Nakakatuwang makita na full blast tayo sa educational sector at lahat ng pangangailangan hanggat kayang ibigay ng pamahalaan, binibigay natin (It is encouraging to see that we are going full blast in the education sector, and that we are providing all the support and resources that the government is capable of giving)," Marcos said, citing the reading nooks being established in schools to encouraged students to read more.
"Alam naman natin ang pinakamahalaga para sa ating kinabukasan ay ang pagturo at ang pag-training sa ating mga kabataan (We all know that the most important investment for our future is educating and training our youth)," Marcos added.
