Sandigan sets arraignment, pre-trial of Estrada, Bonoan for graft on June 2

The Sandiganbayan has scheduled the arraignment and pre-trial of Senator Jinggoy Estrada and former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, in a graft case involving ₱573 million over alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
The case, docketed as Criminal Case No. E-SB26CRM0004, charges Estrada and Bonoan with alleged violation of Section 3(e) of Republic Act No. 3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

According to court records, Estrada, through counsel, filed an Urgent Omnibus Motion Ad Cautelam on Monday, June 1 seeking to quash the information, dismiss the case with prejudice, or suspend the proceedings and remand the case for reinvestigation and/or completion of the preliminary investigation.
The motion was filed a day before the scheduled arraignment and pre-trial proceedings.
The Second Division earlier issued warrants of arrest for Estrada and Bonoan on graft charges. Each posted ₱90,000 bail following the issuance of the warrants by the anti-graft court on May 29.
Separate from the graft case, Estrada is also facing a plunder case before the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division in connection with the same flood control project controversy.
The anti-graft court’s Fifth Division issued a warrant of arrest for Estrada on Monday. He has since surrendered, as plunder is a non-bailable offense.
The senator will be committed to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas, Quezon City, where former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is currently detained on graft and malversation charges also over alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
