The Pasay City government is set to celebrate diversity, equality, and inclusivity as it joins the nationwide observance of Pride Month through its annual Rainbow Parade on June 24.
Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the event highlights the city's recognition of the achievements, talents, and significant contributions of members of the LGBTQIA+ community in building a more progressive and compassionate society.
She encouraged members of the LGBTQIA+ community to participate in the parade dressed in colorful, creative, and festive costumes. Prizes await winners in the Best Dressed and Best Float categories, including entries using vehicles, tricycles, and e-bikes.
The Rainbow Parade will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the corner of EDSA and Tramo Road. Participants will march along Buendia Avenue before proceeding to the World Trade Center, where a series of activities promoting awareness, empowerment, and community engagement will be held.
The celebration will include an awarding ceremony recognizing outstanding individuals and advocates from the LGBTQIA+ sector for their contributions to both the community and the city.
A lecture on the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) Ordinance will also be conducted to raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights and the importance of preventing discrimination.
One of the highlights of the event will be the Ms. Gay Pasay Tourism pageant, which will showcase the beauty, talent, confidence, and advocacy of LGBTQIA+ participants while promoting acceptance and inclusivity.
The city mayor said the annual celebration serves as a platform to strengthen support for diversity and human rights, and to encourage respect, understanding, and equal opportunities for all residents, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
