Typhoon “Domeng” dumped rains and triggered heavy flooding that has affected around 85,000 individuals in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Monday, June 1.
In a situational report, the NDRRMC said a total of 17,059 families composed of 85,295 individuals were impacted by rains and strong winds brought by Domeng across 37 affected villages.
Further, flooding was recorded in 37 areas in Maguindanao del Sur, specifically in the towns of Ampatuan, Sultan sa Barongis (Lambayong), Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Datu Salibo, and Datu Piang.
All of the affected individuals were staying with their friends or relatives homes and no evacuation center was activated so far.
Meanwhile, the damage to infrastructure incurred due to Domeng has reached of P3.4 million, with two schools, a public market, a barangay hall and solar dryer among those impacted.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the center of the eye of Domeng was located 710 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes as of 11 am. Monday.
It was moving northward at a speed of 20 km/h while packing maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 150 km/h.
