The Manila Police District (MPD) has warned unlicensed tricycle drivers following the apprehension of an 18-year-old motorist during an Oplan Galugad and Oplan Disiplina operation in Tondo.
Operatives from MPD Police Station 1, led by Lt. Col. Ronald De Leon, flagged down the driver after he was spotted plying the streets late at night with a tricycle emitting a loud sound, disturbing nearby residents.
Upon inspection, the driver admitted he had no driver’s license, in violation of traffic laws.
The tricycle was impounded at the police station.
De Leon stressed that the MPD will not tolerate motorists operating without proper licenses, warning that violators will face penalties under existing traffic ordinances.
He said the operation is part of the station’s continuing efforts to enforce discipline and maintain peace and order in Tondo, particularly during nighttime when residents are resting.
“Hindi ipinagbabawal ang paghahanapbuhay, pero kailangang sumunod sa batas para sa sariling kaligtasan at ng iba (Earning a living is not prohibited, but one must comply with the law for one's own safety and that of others)," De Leon said.
The police official also urged drivers to secure proper licenses to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge of traffic rules and road safety.
MPD said it will sustain regular patrols and enforcement operations in the area as part of its broader anti-criminality drive and commitment to public safety.
