The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, June 1, raised a yellow rainfall warning over Metro Manila due to the effects of the southwest monsoon or “hanging habagat.”
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso said the city government is preparing for the rainy season, emphasizing the importance of immediate action in clearing waste that may worsen flooding.
As of 12:40 p.m., June 1, PAGASA said the City of Manila and nearby areas may experience intermittent moderate to heavy rains that could persist for two to three hours.
Meanwhile, the regular Monday flag-raising ceremony of the Manila City government was held inside City Hall instead of at Kartilya ng Katipunan due to the inclement weather.
Authorities warned that the downpour may lead to possible flash floods, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
The Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department advised residents to remain alert and take precautionary measures as weather conditions may rapidly change.
Residents were also urged to stay updated through official advisories from PAGASA and local government units for timely information on weather developments.
The southwest monsoon continues to affect parts of Luzon, bringing cloudy skies and scattered rains over Metro Manila and surrounding areas.
