Senator Jinggoy Estrada is expected to surrender to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday afternoon, June 1, after the Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant against him for a non-bailable case of plunder, a government official said.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla is expected to lead the serving of the arrest warrant issued by the 5th Division of the Sandiganbayan when Estrada arrives at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
This will be the third time Estrada was charged and arrested for a case of plunder, and this time, it is connected to flood control anomalies wherein he was accused of receiving more than P500 million in kickbacks.
Last week, the Office of the Ombudsman filed graft and plunder charges against Estrada, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) secretary Manuel Bonoan and several other DPWH personalities.
On Friday, the 2nd Division of the Sandiganayan issued an arrest warrant for a graft case. Estrada was released after posting P90,000 bail.
Estrada is expected to undergo booking procedures that include taking of mugshots, fingerprinting and medical examination before he would be presented to the Sandiganbayan.
The Sandiganbayan is expected to issue a commitment order as to where Estrada would be detained.
