Senator Jose “Jinggoy” P. Ejercito Estrada will be committed to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas, where former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. is currently detained, after the Sandiganbayan ordered his arrest in connection with a plunder case, the anti-graft court’s Fifth Division Clerk of Court said on Monday, June 1.
The development came after the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division ordered the arrest of Estrada and his co-accused in the plunder case stemming from alleged illegal budget insertions and purported kickbacks linked to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects.
Also ordered arrested were former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Assistant District Engineer Denryl Caesar S. Cortuna, and District Engineers Manny B. Bulusan and Arturo L. Gonzales Jr.
Estrada and Bonoan are facing two counts of graft, with one case raffled to the Sandiganbayan’s Second Division and another graft case assigned to the Fifth Division.
The plunder case against all the respondents was likewise raffled to the Fifth Division.
The New Quezon City Jail currently houses Revilla, who is facing graft and malversation charges before the Sandiganbayan.
Revilla and his co-accused were charged in connection with the alleged anomalous implementation of a P92.8-million flood-control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
