Even after Typhoon Domeng (international name: Jangmi) exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the enhanced southwest monsoon is expected to bring rain over parts of Luzon and Western Visayas for the next two to three days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, June 1.
The center of the eye of Domeng was last spotted at 695 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
It had maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 150 kph while moving northward at 20 kph.
The typhoon exited the PAR at 11:30 a.m.
However, PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said Domeng continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” which is bringing rains over large parts of the country.
“Ang southwest monsoon ay inaasahang magtatagal ang epekto nito sa ating bansa lalo na sa Luzon at Western Visayas sa susunod na dalawa hanggang tatlong araw (The southwest monsoon is expected to continue affecting the country, particularly Luzon and Western Visayas, in the next two to three days),” he said.
He said residents in affected areas should remain alert as the prolonged rains may trigger flooding and landslides in vulnerable communities.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
