DAVAO CITY – The Davao Light and Power Co. Inc. urged the public to disregard what it described as false or misleading information circulating online and among communities regarding its operations in Davao del Norte province.
In a statement issued on Monday, June 1, Davao Light said its authority to operate in Davao del Norte is grounded in Republic Act No. 12144 which expanded its franchise coverage to the province and Davao de Oro.
The company assumed electricity distribution services in Tagum City and three municipalities in Davao del Norte on May 26. It emphasized that the Supreme Court upheld the law recently.
In addition to the legislative mandate, the Tagum City Regional Trial Court Branch 2 issued a Writ of Possession covering the city and the towns of Asuncion, Kapalong, New Corella, Sawata, and Talaingod.
The Panabo City RTC Branch 4 also issued a separate Writ of Possession covering the Island Garden City of Samal, Davao Light said.
"With the legal bases in place, DLPC is responsible for the full operation of the electric distribution system within its franchise area, covering maintenance, customer service, billing, and collection," the company said.
Davao Light warned that any person or group conducting operations, billing, collection, or disconnection activities without proper authority is acting illegally and may face legal action.
The company called on customers and communities to remain vigilant when dealing with individuals or groups who claim to represent an electric utility.
Davao Light advised the public to always ask for a proper identification card and authorization, deal only with official Davao Light staff, and report any suspicious or unauthorized activity to DLPC or the police.
"Davao Light remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and efficient electric service while fully complying with the law and court order," the company said.
